American Women for International Understanding is proud to announce that the 2020 Internationalism Award recipient is Deloitte, the leading provider of audit and assurance, consulting, financial advisory, risk advisory, tax, and related services. Deloitte is being honored for its transformational work in addressing issues of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, in particular, for recognizing the importance of empowering and advancing women. The AWIU Internationalism Award is presented to honorees who have addressed concerns and issues facing women worldwide. The commitment and work of the honorees have set them apart by every standard. Recipients have exhibited support for women’s issues and contributed to worldwide understanding, raised awareness of global concerns, and fostered and encouraged cross-cultural dialogue.
Deloitte has been helping shape corporate America’s inclusion landscape since 1993, when it became the first professional services organization to establish women’s and diversity initiatives. Deloitte’s commitment to fostering an inclusive culture hasn’t slowed down since. From forging new ground with its Board Ready Women programs, to its extensive efforts to attract, develop and advance its female professionals, Deloitte has remained steadfast in its commitment to diverse talent.
Deloitte has taken on a number of innovative approaches to inspire and engage its people. Deloitte launched Inclusion Councils, which provide opportunities for people to connect across communities and around common interests, discover common ground and strengthen support for one another. Deloitte has also launched an annual research series, The State of Inclusion, which explores workplace trends and perceptions. Its inaugural report explored the role allyship can play in enhancing workplace culture. Deloitte recently hosted its first Inclusion Summit, where 800 of its professionals gathered to network, hear from leaders and develop inclusive leadership skills to bring back to their teams. Deloitte provides numerous opportunities for its people to understand the importance of inclusion to its culture and personalize what inclusion means to them.
“We are proud to be honored by the American Women for International Understanding,” said Terri Cooper, Chief Inclusion Officer for Deloitte. “We continue to remain focused on advancing inclusion throughout our organization and for our people, to truly be a place where everyone feels like they can connect, belong, and grow.” AWIU will present the Internationalism Award at its annual International Women of Courage Celebration in Los Angeles on March 16, 2020. “AWIU is delighted to recognize Deloitte’s leadership in the areas of corporate inclusion and diversity,” declared AWIU’s president Ambassador Tatiana Gfoeller. “Deloitte’s trailblazing programs are changing the leadership landscape for women in business.” AWIU’s International Women of Courage Celebration is presented in collaboration with the U.S. Department of State to honor the Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage.
