On August 9, 2012, the New York chapter met for the first time! After reflecting on key aspects of the historical context of AWIU, recent delegations, and the Santa Barbara retreat, the participants began constructing a vision for the work and potential impact of the NY chapter in advancing AWIU's mission and purpose. The participants expressed interest in exploring grant opportunities that would support the work of the chapter and researching foundations and organizations dealing with education in the Balkans as well as water scarcity and other issues in Africa. The second meeting was held on September 13, 2012 at LaGuardia Community College. The participants included college faculty who attended the meeting to learn more about the organization and ways to get involved.
