Our Awards

Over the years, AWIU has honored women who have contributed to international understanding by presenting them with the AWIU Award for Internationalism at a special event. We have recognized outstanding women in the fields of diplomacy, politics, scientific achievement, communications, media and more.

Created in 2003, this award is given to an AWIU member who through extraordinary efforts has furthered the mission of the organization. It is named after AWIU’s founder, Bernice Behrens.

AWIU Internationalism Award

The AWIU Internationalism Award is presented to individuals who have addressed concerns and issues facing women worldwide. The commitment and work of the individuals have set them apart by every standard. Recipients have exhibited international support for women’s issues and contributed to worldwide understanding, raised awareness of global concerns, and fostered and encouraged cross-cultural dialogue.
