Coordinator, Passport to the Future Program
Barbara Rubio joined AWIU in 2005 to be part of the AWIU Delegation to Iceland that year. The former school psychologist, art therapist, and playwright’s career ran the gamut from providing psychological and art therapy services to New York public school children, to counseling developmentally disabled young adults using therapeutic theatre arts techniques. She has a B.A. from Denison University in Literature and Visual Arts, two master’s degrees from Columbia University in Teaching English in Secondary Schools and Developmental Psychology, and a third master’s degree in Art Therapy from St. Johns University, New York. Barbara is a jazz piano afficionado, and takes several lessons weekly. At AWIU, she has concentrated on creating opportunities for member and Passport collaboration and engagement.
