Bethany is a cross-sector social-impact architect who has spent two decades turning strangers into teammates and building community. As CEO of Compass Pro Bono, she mobilizes over 1,000 professionals annually to volunteer their skills with local nonprofits, building thriving, resilient communities. Elected to the Falls Church City School Board in 2023, she champions policies that empower students and teachers to succeed.

Bethany previously led America SCORES, a youth development nonprofit, where she directly grew the organization and its flagship site, DC SCORES, doubling the number of children served while maintaining or improving outcomes. As a White House Fellow, she played a central role in laying the groundwork for President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative. Bethany also has worked as an intellectual property litigator at Quinn Emanuel and was part of the 5 person team that led the New York City government’s transition into the Internet era.

Her work has earned numerous accolades, including the Center for Nonprofit Advancement’s Excellence in Leadership Award (2018), Washington Business Journal’s Nonprofit ED of the Year (2017), and an Echoing Green Fellowship in 2009 for social entrepreneurship.

Bethany holds a JD from Harvard Law and both an MA and BA from the University of Pennsylvania. She teaches social entrepreneurship at the University of Maryland, team leadership at the Sports & Entertainment Impact Collaborative, and frequently speaks on social impact leadership. A mother of two teenage daughters, she enjoys RV camping and exploring the world with her family, and is slowly learning how to play mahjong.
