What an evening! A heartfelt thank you to our sponsors, patrons, guests and supporters who made the 17th Annual International Women of Courage Celebration an inspiring and joyous tribute to the 2024 International Women of Courage (IWOC) Awardees and the collective power of women’s voices.
We were so pleased to welcome 11 of the 2024 IWOC Awardees, IWOC Alumnae from 2015 and 2018, U.S. Department of State dignitaries, women leaders from the Honorary Committee, executives from sponsoring companies, and American Women for International Understanding (AWIU) members and guests.
Three of this year’s Awardees — Ugandan IWOC Agather Atuhaire, Afghan IWOC Benafsha Yaqoobi, and Iranian IWOC Fariba Balouch — gave inspiring and impactful speeches about overcoming fear and discrimination, the importance of standing up for human rights and dignity, and the continuation of their work. There was so much appreciation and admiration in the room that night for all of the Awardees’ incredible efforts to make the world a better place.
Thank you also to Colleen Williams, award-winning NBC journalist, for being our outstanding host; to Billie Jean King for sending a wonderful message to the Awardees; and to the Chamber Singers of the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus for opening the evening’s program with a beautiful and moving performance.
