Career Opportunities in International Relations (COIR)

Another stellar COIR in the books! On Friday, October 4, AWIU hosted the 8th Annual COIR Symposium at MLK Library in Washington, D.C. The theme of this year’s symposium, “Women in STEM: Forging Global Impact,” focused on STEM and International Relations. AWIU’s COIR Symposium provides young women the opportunity to learn about careers in international affairs and engage directly with women leaders in the field.

Speakers included Dr. Aubrey Paris, Sr. Policy Advisor on Gender, Climate Change & Innovation at the U.S. State Department, Dr. Joanne Hill-Kittle, Deputy Director for NASA Goddard’s Engineering and Technology Directorate, as well as representatives from Deloitte, Intel, the Brookings Institution, the Space Foundation and Catholic University. Break-out sessions addressed Health Breakthroughs and Inequity, Women in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity, and Strategies to Open Opportunities in STEM-Related Careers. We also had recruiters from a number of local organizations and universities including Fulbright, Peace Corps, USAID, EnCompass LLC, IES Abroad, Council on Foreign Relations, Georgetown University, and American University. The event drew a total of 95 attendees representing 24 schools!

Thank you to the entire COIR team, including Co-Chair Ambassador Eunice Reddick, Co-Chair Ann Diederich, Abbey Alpern, Ally Annick, Nancy Annick, Noelle Newton, Maggie Sabbag, Barbara Rubio, Lisa O’Quinn, Virginia Brooks Morales Navarrete, Kelly Barb, Miranda Cohen, and new member Kris’tina Ackerman. We also couldn’t have done it without our generous donors, including Ambassador Eunice Reddick, Noelle Newton, Laura Schuldt, Meg Huebner, Janey Wetzel, Janice Trojan, Barbara Rubio, Maggie Sabbag, Nancy Annick, Jennifer Bruml, and Abbey Alpern.

We can’t wait to see you next year!
