March is a big month for women worldwide. It’s Women’s History Month, in which we recognize women’s contributions to history, culture and society. There’s also a special day, International Women’s Day on March 8th, so double the reasons to celebrate women and how AWIU is empowering them around the globe.
Weighing in on Inspiring Women
American Women for International Understanding (AWIU) asked young women in its Passport to the Future program to tell us about the women, past or present, who inspire them.
AWIU Passports Michaela Sabbag, Leah Rullman and Kati Vera collaborated on a video homage to Mexican artist Frida Kahlo.
The producing trio are, respectively, a high school student, a graduate school student, and a young professional.
Passport Mary Apollo, a young professional, produced a video on Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao, a physician, founder of the African Diaspora Development Institute and a former ambassador of the African Union to the U.S., whom she lauds as having been a big support for her career aspirations.
The Passport program draws young women who are interested in careers in international relations. They enjoy meaningful skill-building, networking and mentorship opportunities as they learn and lead alongside our grantees, International Women of Courage, and members.
